The Urban Roots: A brief history...

They started out on the late 80s / early 90s as The Urban Rockers Sound System, putting on dancehall sessions to warm appreciative crowds. This was followed by founding a live reggae band that would tour and record throughout the mid nineties with various vocalists and lineups. Life on the road was eventually sacrificed to concentrate more on studio work. During that time they sharpened their sound engineering skills and added formal qualifications whilst simultaneously fine tuning their music production techniques. Subsequently, they were called upon by others on the sound engineering, remixing and music production front. They travelled wide and far taking in sessions in Jamaica, USA, Ireland and at home in the UK. It was during a studio session with Mikey Dread in 2001 that the band was re-christened from The Urban Rockers to The Urban Roots. Around 2003, the love affair with the visual media started and they found themselves getting into the visual aspects of promo video and VJing. They went onto to VJ for their mates Dreadzone and The Dub Pistols for various shows and tours as well as doing shows with Neville Staple, Zion Train, Pama International and Dub the Earth amongst others. They still continue to VJ for various shows and festivals between studio and production work.
